RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SPORTS AND WEIGHT

RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SPORTS AND WEIGHT

Exercising may not directly lead to weight loss, if you do not see the number you want on the scale, there may be several reasons.

For some reason, even if we do sports, we may not lose weight or even gain weight. Of course, there may be situations where we do this willingly, like weight gain diets. However, sometimes we are not able to reach our target weight even though we are doing sports. So why? Dietitian Ecem Naz Genç lists the possible reasons for this as follows.

1) Is your weight gain fat or muscle?

You can prove this to yourself by looking at your recent diet and sports intensity, most importantly cm measurements. During periods of rapid fat burning, muscle building also increases. In other words, if there was an excess of muscle more than the lost fat, you may appear to have gained weight on the scale. In short, excess weight on the scale actually shows that he is getting muscular, not fat.

2) Weighed right after exercise?

In the moments immediately after the exercise, the water retention of the muscles increases, if we weigh at these moments, the scale will show more than we are, so there is no need to panic! This is exactly why it is more accurate not to choose the full after-workout for measurement.

3) Didn't you get enough nutrition?

There is a false belief that the desired result can be achieved faster when we do more exercise and reduce eating more than it should. However, when we increase the intensity of sports and reduce it without nutrition, our body slows down the metabolism in order to be satisfied with the calories we have, which is contrary to the purpose of sports.

At the same time, the most important situation that we should not forget is that if enough food is not taken and a food is not provided to compensate for the damage caused by sports, the body provides that energy by breaking down the muscles on its own. Thus, while trying to build muscle, we destroy it, and this is the opposite of our purpose.

4) Are you not eating healthy?

Sometimes, people may start to take in more calories than they burn in sports with the thought of "how am I doing sports". Or he may not take the time to prepare healthy foods.

If you can't find time to cook every day, you can make it a habit to prepare a few daily meals on a free day and put them in the closet. Thus, you can ensure that you consume homemade foods, foods high in fiber. If you wish, you can easily balance sports and nutrition by working with a nutritionist.

5) Do you have a physiological problem?
If all the evaluations such as sports, nutrition, sleep, water consumption are as they should be, but we are still gaining weight, we should go to a doctor's control and see if there is a physiological disorder. In such a case, you may need to get support from a doctor and dietitian.
